On the Trans Euro Trail

These are the published rides that follow the Trans Euro Trail through Bosnia and into Croatia.

TET Bosnia to Lukomir is the short day south of Sarajevo. About 47 km and an hour and a half on Bjelašnica, tagged easy for a big or mid-size adventure bike. The surface is gravel, open ridge, and rocky track toward the highland village. Services and cell coverage are limited, the weather changes, and livestock and dogs use the track.

Sarajevo to Skradin is the long day west. About 419 km and thirteen hours, tagged hard. Most of it is unpaved: forest trail, gravel, and mountain track through Bugojno, Kupres, Glamoč, and Bosansko Grahovo, then the border at Strmica, Knin, and Skradin on the Krka. Fuel and services are far apart. Carry a passport or ID, the bike papers, and insurance that covers Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Leave with a full tank and daylight to spare.

Makarska to Sarajevo is the return from the coast. About 239 km and nine and a half hours, tagged medium for a big ADV, a mid-size bike, or an enduro. It follows the Adriatic through Tučepi, Igrane, and Gradac, then the Neretva delta into Bosnia near Metković, through Čapljina, Počitelj, and Mostar, and north via Konjic to Sarajevo. Most of the distance is paved. The Herzegovina return includes Trans Euro Trail sections, gravel, and dirt that get muddy after rain. Carry a passport or ID, the bike papers, and insurance for both countries. In marked mine-risk areas, stay on the established track.

Mine signs along the corridor mean what they say. Stay on the established track.
